Protecting and Preserving an Estate in Autumn

With the turn in the seasons from one that is typically warm and dry to another notorious for more damp and cold conditions, our thoughts are yet again focused on the importance of protecting and preserving estates.

Suitable property insurance is important all year round, but with the arrival of autumn comes an emphasis on specific perils that can be an increased risk due to the changes in weather.
Here are a few factors to consider[1]:
  • Have the property drained before the cold weather sets in to avoid frozen pipes that could later burst.
  • Alternatively, if the property is not drained, leaving the heating on can also help to avoid frozen pipes[2]. Be sure to keep up to date with boiler maintenance.
  • Thoroughly clean and tidy the house to help avoid attracting pests looking for a warm home.
  • Remove any leaves that have built up in the gutters to prevent blockages.
  • Inspect the property after extreme weather, such as snow or heavy rain.
  • Find property insurance that suits the needs of the property.
Our Unoccupied Property Insurance is there for homes that are empty due to the owner passing away or moving into care. There is no inspection clause in our policy, which is just one of the ways in which we’ve tailored the product to reduce the amount of work involved with looking after an empty home. However, you may want to inspect the property whenever possible, to help catch any issues early.

For those who were interested to find out the answer to our question, "What does the property insurance acronym ‘FLEE’ stand for?", the answer is: Fire, Lightning, Earthquake, and Explosion. Thanks to everyone who took part.
All the best and take care,
